Tips for ParentsTips for Kids
Parents always tell their children "Don't talk to Strangers" and that rule now has a new meaning talking to strangers all over the world via the internet.

People on the internet can log on using fake names, they can create whole new identities.

Are Cell Phones for Children inappropriate or potentially useful? Consider the options-and you be the judge.
Cell Phones almost always have built in cameras and are prevalent in every school. These phones can sometimes be used to take inappropriate photos. Digital images can then be easily uploaded to the Internet, posted on a webpage or social networking site or sent via email.

Some young people are experimenting with this technology while exploring their sexuality by taking explicit or revealing pictures of themselves or others.

Once these pictures are on the Internet they are there forever!

The advent of accessible communication via computers has greatly increased the potential for individuals to lure children to places where they can be exploited. Computers are pervasive in our society and in our homes, very popular with youth, and the users are able to communicate anonymously or deceptively as to their identity. Moreover, users are able to cast a wide net, potentially reaching many young persons. Numerous instances of youth being lured by means of computer communications for a sexual purpose, or attempts have been documented and have revealed the ease with which a child's vulnerability can be exploited in this fashion

Internet luring is a common practice today where children are approached online. An exchange of pornographic images is common with the possibility of a face-to-face meeting with the predator.
 Canada Raises Age of Consent
Canada's Age of Consent increased from 14 to 16 years effective May 01 2008 It is now illegal for adults in Canada to have sex with a partner under the age of 16. The Tackling Violent Crime Act raises the legal age of sexual consent in Canada to 16 from 14. The law doesn't make criminals out of teens who have sex. It accepts that teens are sexually active, no matter how much parents might be troubled by that. As long as both parties are within five years of each other in age, the law doesn't apply. A 17-year-old boy who has sex with his 15-year-old girlfriend won't be made a criminal.

The new law puts Canada's age of consent in line with those in Britain, Australia and most of the United States.

No longer can sexual predators target naïve 14-year-old girls and boys for exploitation on or off the Internet.

SafeTzone! respects and cares for the children and community and accepts accountability for playing our part in making the Internet a safer place.
Young people are using computer-based cameras known as webcams to transmit sexually explicit images of themselves. Webcams, which are inexpensive and often no bigger than a golf ball, are usually placed on top of a computer monitor. When connected to a computer, these cameras send video images that can be viewed instantaneously by another computer user or simultaneously by many users. Adults who seek to exploit children sometimes mail webcams to children they have met on the Internet to facilitate online sexual encounters.
